Kauffman Stadium

Home of the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City, MO.

What's it like to attend a game at Kauffman Stadium?

The Water Spectacular sets Kauffman apart before a single pitch is thrown — 322 feet of fountains arcing beyond the outfield wall, throwing mist into the July heat during the pre-game show. Get to the outfield concourse early to watch it up close. The park itself is a modernist outlier from 1973, the only purpose-built baseball venue of the cookie-cutter era, and its sweeping concrete lines and wide open concourses still feel considered rather than accidental. Getting here means driving: the Truman Sports Complex sits in a highway interchange with no surrounding neighborhood, so plan to arrive ninety minutes early and tailgate. The lots fill with hickory smoke, and strangers genuinely share food. Inside, order the Z-Man at Joe's Kansas City — brisket, smoked provolone, onion rings on a Kaiser roll — and swing through the Royals Hall of Fame in left field, where George Brett's pine tar bat is on display, free of charge.
