Busch Stadium II

Historic MLB ballpark (1966–2005) in St. Louis, MO.

What was it like to attend a game at Busch Stadium II?

Those 96 concrete arches made the roofline unmistakable — each one a deliberate callback to the Gateway Arch rising just blocks away, the two structures framing downtown St. Louis like a matched set. Inside, the artificial turf played fast and unforgiving, and Cardinals fans came ready to reward smart, aggressive baseball. The crowd was knowledgeable and loud when the moment called for it, particularly during the 1982 World Series run. Concessions leaned on the regional staples — bratwurst, Anheuser-Busch beer on draft, and toasted ravioli vendors working the lower deck. Most fans arrived downtown by car or bus, parking in the shadow of the Arch grounds. The park itself was a product of its era: symmetrical, multi-purpose, designed for football geometry as much as baseball. Demolition came quickly after the 2005 NLCS, and Busch Stadium III now sits on part of that same footprint, inheriting the address but not the arches.
